A central feature of the modernization was the integration of a new F7 finishing mill stand, improving rolling force distribution and enabling stable rolling of wider and harder grades at thinner thicknesses. This was complemented by upgrades to existing finishing stands, enhanced cooling sections, and improvements to exit-side equipment.
In parallel, the plant underwent a comprehensive automation upgrade, with advanced Level 1 and Level 2 control systems improving rolling precision, process stability, and real-time quality monitoring across the line.
Smooth Commissioning and Early Performance
Following restart, the upgraded CSP mill demonstrated stable performance during initial operations, with multiple coils rolled successfully without operational disruptions. Within the first few days of ramp-up, the facility achieved production of hot-rolled strip down to around 1.2 mm thickness, reflecting effective commissioning and execution.
The smooth ramp-up highlights close coordination between Tata Steel and SMS Group engineering teams, many of whom were involved in the original CSP installation.
