Interarch Building Solutions Limited, a leading Noida-based pre-engineered steel construction company, is embarking on a major capacity expansion project in southern India. The company has announced a phased investment of ₹300 crore to scale up its manufacturing footprint at the Athivaram Industrial Park in the SPSR Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. This strategic capital deployment is designed to capture the growing domestic demand for complex structural steel, driven heavily by the rapid expansion of capital infrastructure and data centers across the region.
Strategic expansion into heavy structural steel
The centerpiece of this new investment is a state-of-the-art heavy structural steel manufacturing facility. Arvind Nanda, managing director of Interarch Building Solutions, recently inaugurated the initial phase of this plant, which has been established on a 20-acre plot within the industrial park.
The facility currently boasts an initial production capacity of 25,000 metric tonnes (MT) per annum. However, the company has outlined a clear roadmap for rapid scaling. According to Nanda, approximately ₹220 crore of the total investment has been earmarked specifically for this facility, with the goal of doubling its production capacity to 50,000 MT per annum over the next two-and-a-half years. This expansion is heavily focused on equipping the plant with specialized European technology, enabling the high-precision fabrication required for complex heavy structural members. This technical capability is essential for servicing large-scale industrial projects where precision engineering and structural integrity are paramount.
Joint venture to target global export markets
Beyond catering to domestic infrastructure needs, Interarch is aggressively positioning itself for the international market. The company recently finalized a strategic joint venture with a Canadian firm, specifically targeting the export of high-quality, pre-engineered steel products.
To support this international ambition, Interarch is dedicating ₹80 crore of the total investment to expand its design and manufacturing capabilities for complex steel structures. This targeted capital allocation ensures that the products manufactured in the Nellore facility will meet stringent global standards, allowing the company to compete effectively in the North American and broader international structural steel markets. The proximity of the Athivaram Industrial Park to major ports and transportation networks will play a crucial role in facilitating these future export operations.
Andhra Pradesh emerges as a critical growth hub
The decision to concentrate this massive expansion in Andhra Pradesh highlights the state's growing prominence as an industrial and technological hub. Nanda noted that the state government has been highly supportive of industrial growth, making it an excellent market for heavy manufacturing.
More importantly, Andhra Pradesh is currently witnessing a massive surge in the development of data centers and large-scale capital infrastructure. These modern construction projects require vast quantities of heavy, high-performance structural steel, providing Interarch with a massive, localized order book. By establishing a robust manufacturing base in Nellore, the company is perfectly positioned to service customers not just within the state, but across the entire southern and western regions of India, significantly reducing logistical costs and delivery times.
Employment generation and local skill development
The operational scaling of the new facility will also have a significant impact on local employment. Currently, Interarch employs around 450 personnel at its existing 10-acre pre-engineered building (PEB) facility located within the same industrial park.
Once all three phases of the new heavy structural steel plant are fully completed, the total workforce across the Nellore operations is expected to reach 1,000 employees. Addressing concerns regarding local hiring, company management acknowledged that the highly specialized nature of heavy steel fabrication currently requires a specifically trained workforce. To bridge this gap, Interarch is planning to launch targeted skill development initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. These initiatives will focus on training the local youth, ensuring they possess the necessary technical skills to secure long-term employment within the expanding facility.
Ultimately, this ₹300 crore investment signifies a massive vote of confidence in India's structural steel sector. By upgrading its technical capabilities and expanding its geographical footprint, Interarch Building Solutions is building a highly resilient, future-ready manufacturing base capable of supporting both domestic infrastructure growth and complex international export demands.
